Cedar Rapids Performance Company
What is CRPC?

CRPC is a summer dance and show choir performance program.

Registration: Members register in early spring. All youth, K- 9th grade, are accepted into the program and put into appropriate groups according to age and ability. Registration is an active registration.  Come at the assigned time and everyone will sing and dance in groups. So come in comfortable clothing! This is not an audition, it is a way for the directors to see how many of certain ages we have that particular year. We like to even the groups out and so the groups change from year to year depending on who registers.

Practice: We practice in April, May and June. We start out with Sunday afternoons only and then at the end of May start practicing multiple times a week. The calendar varies from year to year, but we typically practice 3 times a week, the last 2 weeks in May and then everyday the first week in June which is normally the first week of summer vacation. That week ends with a Dress Rehearsal and our first performance!

Performances: We perform about 15 times during the summer at many different events in and around the community. Some of our performances include Freedom Festival, Solon Beef Days, Marion Swamp Fox Festival, the malls, some nursing homes, Mt Vernon Heritage Days, Lisbon Sauerkraut Days, Fairfax Fun Days, a Kernels Ballgame and more.

Commitment: As you can see, being a member of CRPC is a time commitment! However, it is understood, and expected, that the members will need to miss some rehearsals and/or performances due to family vacations, summer camps, etc. The company is very flexible when dealing with conflicts. We do ask that CRPC come before a child’s work schedule or social events such as shopping or movies, etc..

The Show: All of the groups combine to perform a hour-long show which features the entire company in the opening and finale and then each smaller group performs 3 numbers of their own. Props and costumes make the show dynamic and entertaining. One fun feature is the “All Dance” which is incorporated in the middle of the show encouraging all audience members to stand up and dance along.

Volunteers: The company travels with their own trailer, a sound system, risers and changing tents. The members, as well as many parent volunteers, help with unloading, setting up and reloading and CRPC becomes like a traveling family as the season goes on.

Fees: CRPC is a 6 month program running from April – September. The cost to participate in CRPC is only $60/ month. Members may pay monthly or can pay the entire fee in advance and receive a $10 discount. Family discounts are given when more than one child in a family participates and a 50% off is given to members who participate in both show choir and dance team. The fee includes COSTUMES, 30-40 hours of instructions, and 30 hours of performance time, making the cost about $6/hour. I encourage you to compare this price with other opportunities such as dance classes, gymnastic sessions, voice lessons, or sports camps. We are almost ALWAYS cheaper and usually MUCH LESS! Optional expenses for the summer would include: CRPC apparel, professional pictures, and videotapes.
